That Gone Star State of Mind...
The Astro's lose (without a single win), Miers down in flames, indictments instead of invitations. It was with a tinge of glee this morning that I realized Texas may NOT be the cultural juggernaut it once thought it was. The whole family snuggled on the bed this morning listening to the news of Harriet's withdrawal. Isaac smiled the whole time while Alden declared "Bubbles!" as he finished his milk and made...bubbles.
However, my glee is tinged with a little sadness for our country. What did we do to deserve this schmuck? Three more years of this? At this rate, there will be over 4500 dead Americans at the end of Bush's term (It is likely though the rate won't stay the same, but no telling whether it goes up or down). Now, not only is the country divided, it's leaderless and weak. Ford ran an add last night touting it's innovations, and my only thought was, "Your 3 years too late, I'll buy the car from the guys who have three years of hybrid motors under their belts, Toyota." Bill Ford even used the tag "Foriegn Oil." Someday, we'll wake up and realize that ALL oil is foreign to us. It's non-renewable, comes from the ground, and we better hurry up and start saving it fast if we want to continue to use plastics, modern medical devices, etc...
Anyway, sorry to my friends who were rooting for the Astro's. Sorry to my friends who were rooting for Bush. Sorry Harriet, no one was even rooting for you.

you mention 4500 dead, so that's 1500 per year over in iraq? I just thought I would mention these statistics from the cdc, they're for deaths only of americans, in one single year:

(yes, that's million, or more than a 1000 times the number killed in Iraq per year)
Death rate: 847.3 deaths per 100,000 population
Life expectancy: 77.3 years

Thanks for the statistics, it is useful to keep things in perspective. By the way my math isn't faulty. If you take the average daily rate of soldier deaths in Iraq (Currently 2.9 fatalaties per day) and multiply it by the number of days Bush has left in office, roughly 1000 days left in office (including vacations). The answer is 2,900 additional fatalaties. So yes, my math was wrong, on the low side.
On to the other statistics, I think roughly 57,000 soldiers died in Vietnam as well. I think this puts it roughly on level with Alzheimers disease. Maybe your argument is we should have fought harder in Vietnam?

Glad you like it. I do like midwestern values, like honesty, doing what's right, being a good neighbor, hunting.
You can still show it to your friends...I hope they're not surprised to find a family who cares deeply about politics, their nation, the other people they share this country with and isn't afraid to speak his mind. It's a big world, their grown ups and they can handle it. See you again.
